GOLF FISHING DIVING OUT & ABOUT

OUT AND ABOUT - PAIGNTON

Families love Paignton - flat level walks, in stark contrast to Torquay which is built on a cliff, bring visitors right to the sea shore. Long sandy beaches, colourful atmosphere, paddler-friendly waters and first class attractions are the essential ingredients for a magical family holiday. In the summer months, life revolves around the sea front which comes alive to the sound of laughter and holiday fun.

But there is also another side to this distinctive seaside town which can be found in the elegance of Oldway Mansion, the green coast line of Elberry Cove and the architecture of Palace Avenue. At night, Paignton seafront comes alive with illuminations and is perfect for an evening stroll. There is a variety of entertainment and excellent food and drink outlets.

oldway

Oldway Mansion A magnificent legacy of one of Paignton's oldest families - "The Singers" of sewing machine fame. The grand marble staircase and the gallery modelled on the Hall of Mirrors in the Palace of Versailles. The American Statue of Liberty is said to have been modelled by the wife of Isaac Singer and created by a French sculptor!

zoo

Paignton Zoo Recent TV fame has brought about a new face lift for Paignton Zoo. Now one of the largest in the country, the 'Big Cat Forest', the 'Bird Aviary' and the 'Wetland Experience' offer state of the art enclosures and are designed with the animals and visitors in mind. This is a must see!!

paignton pier

Paignton Pier Stretching out into Torbay, the pier is packed with attractions. It has a large children's area and is an ideal place to take in views of Paignton and the nearby coastline.

quay

Quaywest Beach Resort A water park at Goodrington, half a mile of water slides twist and turn and splash at Shipwreck Island. Grand Prix Go Karts whiz round a specially built circuit and more on the water with the bumper boats!

steam engine

Steam Railway Paignton to Dartmouth, a magical run back through the ages of time on a seven mile journey through spectacular scenery of Devon countryside, initially alongside Torbay and then the wooded slopes of the River Dart.

Goodrington Seashore and Interpretation Centre Based on the beach at Goodrington and free to enter, the centre offers a Journey of Discovery into the under water world of the sea shore. Interactive exhibits, a walk through a rock pool and a programme of regular rockpool rambles. Great for children!

seafront

Paignton Seafront Paignton Green is the venue for outdoor events and entertainment, with carnivals, funfairs, fireworks, shows, music and festivals all year round, including the Annual Children's Festival and Radio One Show. It is also the setting for countless games of cricket and football, frisbee and kite flying. Suitable for all ages!

harbour

Paignton Harbour The "Jewel in the Crown" of Paignton is located at the southern end of Paignton Green and sands. It is a local community area with cafes, restaurants, shops, post office and of course the local pub. The quaint harbour is a peaceful place to sit and relax. Have a chat and take in the boating activities. See the fishing boats landing or if you fancy being a little more adventurous, try some D.I.Y. boating - hire your own boat. Pick up a ferry trip across the bay or a cruise to the river Dart. The Harbour is an "Olde World" part of Paignton often missed - suitable for all ages.
