guests receive privileged discounts of 25% off normal daily
rates at Dartmouth Golf and Country Club.
This is South Devon's premier golf and leisure complex and
they offer unlimited golf. There are two courses: a 9-hole
course and the 18-hole championship course. |
TORQUAY
- A fairly tight parkland course, two cliff
top holes and views out to sea. |
CHURSTON
- Between Paignton and Brixham, cliff top
type golf meandering around the headland - wonderful views
across the bay to Torquay playing the inward nine. |
Both
Torquay and Churston are traditional style golf clubs requiring
players to have official handicaps. Charges between £25
and £35 per day. |
DAINTON
PARK
- A relatively new course only a stones throw away from
the Bay at Ipplepen. Attractive parkland course, plus a
covered driving range, features water hazards on six holes
and reputably the the toughest opening two holes in Devon!
Accessible to visitors, handicap certificates not essential,
green fees £16 to £18 per round. Popularity makes it advisable
to pre-book start times by phone. |
HELE
PARK
- A short 9-hole course. Pleasant to play, also has a covered
driving range. |
STOVER
- This golf club situated close to Newton Abbot is not a
long course, but has an abundance of trees, heather and
gorse which place a premium on accuracy. Handicap Certificates
required. Costs around £25 per day. |
TEIGNMOUTH
- Some 900 feet above sea level,
designed by MacKenzie, who also designed Augusta in Atlanta.
The course has few trees and offers a "heathland"
layout with plenty of heather and gorse. Spectacular views
across the estuary and Lyme Bay can be seen on clear days.
Handicap Certificates required. Costs around £25 per day. |
THE
WARREN
- This golf course near Dawlish, offers the only true "links"
golf in South Devon. Occupying a narrow peninsular extending
into the estuary of the River Exe, The Warren has
numerous natural bunkers and plenty of gorse to catch the
wayward hitter. There is also a wild bird sanctuary close
by. Handicap Certificates required. Costs around £25 per
day. |
TEIGN
VALLEY
- This is a fairly new golf course to the north of the region.
There is a mixture of terrain, flat tight fairways down
near the riverside and steep and rugged fairways on the
slopes of the surrounding hills. One hole boasts a mention
in the "Guinness Book of Records" for a 'hole
in one' on a hole which is a dog-leg in excess of 500 yards!! |
